Dozar was founded by Cristina Chew, Julia Chew, and Sean Untersee to close a gap in construction software: the tools on the market are built for the largest 10% of firms, leaving everyone else running jobs on spreadsheets, group texts, and a truck full of receipts.

The problem was personal before it was a business. Sean, a working construction project manager, was spending hours every night logging updates and chasing paperwork, work that had nothing to do with actually running the job. Listening to his complaints, Cristina saw the outline of a product and came up with the concept for Dozar. She and Julia set out to build it: Julia dug into competitor research, designed the front end, and curated the brand and voice, while Cristina coded and developed the underlying technology. Talking to project managers, superintendents, and GCs across the industry confirmed it wasn't just Sean's problem, it was the industry's.
